MEZZANINE~C14 Will-guitar/vox Thom Ferrante-bass/vox Ryan Ebling-drums
The hard hitting, ferocious, post-punk/noise band Mezzanine~C14 have been kicking in doors and blowing out windows every place they go. Formed in Spring of '98 out of Chattanooga, TN by founding members: Will Walker, Jason Spears (low- frequencies), and Chris Lanza (tin cans and lids). Shortly after forming they went on to record six songs at Funhouse Studios in NYC with Jerry Teel (Boss Hog, Yeah Yeah Yeahs). Four of the six songs were released by Homicide Records on the Machinegun Camera EP. Mezzanine~C14 toured twice to support the EP which has completely sold out and is now out of print. Toward the end of 2000 Will moved to Jersey City, NJ leaving Chris and Jason in TN, but agreed to continue playing together. They took a four-month hiatus and then decided it was time to get back into the studio. They chose Raw Studios in NYC -- which is run by Jean-Christophe Santalis (Hatebreed, Sub Zero) -- and then recorded ten new songs in May 2000. Not knowing if they wanted to release the new material on Homicide Records, they shopped the new record around to a couple of other labels. After a month or so, they were contacted by BreakEven Records -- a not-for-profit label based in Philadelphia, PA -- and in November 2000 their first full-length, the self-titled Mezzanine~C14 was released. The record received lots of attention and critical praise and the band went on to tour several times to support the record. In Spring 2001, Jason and Chris not willing to relocate and tired of the commute between TN. and NJ. quit Mezzanine~C14. A little over a year late in 2002, Will was ready to get back into the studio and start working on the next MC14 album. He had met bass player -- Mark Cyst -- and with help from friend, Miyuki Furtado (Rogers Sisters) on drums. They recorded several tracks for their new full-length titled "He Keeps Silent and Sacrificies Himslf " at Emandee Studios in Williamsburg, Brooklyn with engineer Mark Ospovat. Eventually, the band was contacted by drummer Nick Mitchell (Ayndrone) from Windsor, Ontario, Canada, shortly there after he moved to Jersey City, NJ and jointed Mezzanine~C14. They finished recording the album and began hitting the road, sharing the stage with such bands as Unsane, Don Caballero, Wesly Willis, Giddy Motors, Stylex, Local H, Neptune, MeatJack and so on. The album "He Keeps Silent and Sacrificies Himself" was released in Oct 2003 on Break Even Records. . After returning home in May 2004 from their US tour, Nick decide it was time to go back to Canada and Mark stepped down as bassist. THE NEW CHAPTER.... Ryan Ebling was announced as the Mezz's new drummer on July 12th 2004. Ryan is best known for his work with The Drayton-Sawyer Gang. When Mark C. stepped down as bassist, Thom Ferrante stepped up and joined the ranks of Mezzanine~C14 as the insane low end with the timing of a metronome. Will had meet Thom several months prior to Cyst's dissapearance, he like the odd flavors Thom was serving, so when MC14 was down a man he was the first person to pipe up and say "when are we touring again" the rest is history .... Though all the ups and downs one thing stays constant. Mezzanine~C14 is an intense post-punk/noise band and will always be a force to be reckoned with . They will be back on the road for a Fall US Tour
